About me

I am a botanist specialising in the flora of the western Mediterranean basin. Most of my research has been on parasitic plants which are a passion of mine. I examined patterns of speciation (the formation of new species) in broomrapes (Orobanche) for my PhD. I spend as much time as I can in the field looking at plants and I particularly enjoy challenging plant identifications!

I also illustrate plants, both in pen and ink and in colour. 900 of my line drawings feature in my latest book published by Kew (Field guide to the wild flowers of the western Mediterranean) which is launched in March, and available for pre-order on Amazon now:
